The son of Italian immigrants, raised in upstate New York, Stevenson started working for pay outside the home at age 12 & since has worked as a writer, teacher, public speaker, business school lecturer, entrepreneur, corporate officer, banker, railroader, news carrier, haberdashery salesperson, management advisor, labor union member, archivist, speechwriter, trainer, & board director.
He started out on the road at age 16, when he sailed to Europe & lived in Istanbul, Turkey, subsequently living in NY, DC, Chicago, Atlanta, Winston-Salem, Providence, Raleigh, Italy, & the mountains of western North Carolina. Stevenson has traversed the lower 48 states, traveled to 34 countries, & circumnavigated the globe three times.
Stevenson began writing poetry at age 18, was published early, founded & edited Paradox Literary Magazine in Buffalo NY, continued writing, but stopped seeking publication for 34 years. Since 2019, his poems have been published in more than 70 literary journals around the world & have been nominated for the Pushcart Prize. He is author of the chapbook, The Population of Dreams (Finishing Line Press, 2022). His first full collection, Heart’s Code, was published by Kelsay Books in 2024.
